How Does Student Crime Stoppers Work?

You may be eligible for a reward up to $100 by providing information about a serious crime which leads to an arrest.  You never have to give your name or testify in court.

The information receive on the Student Crime Stoppers line (433-STOP) is forwarded to the appropriate law enforcement agency.  For example, a student calls in a tip about a crime that occurred in the school or on school grounds.  The information will then be provided to the appropriate school resource officer.  When a student calls the Crime Stoppers line with information about a crime that occurred in the community, the information will then be dispatched to the appropriate law enforcement agency.  The student called is assigned a special code number in the same way as the adult program.  The office staff will then advise the student caller to call back at a specific interval of time to check on progress of the case.  in all future contacts, the student caller is identified only by code number, thus maintaining the caller's anonymity.

If the information leads to an arrest, indictment, disciplinary action by school administrators, property recovery, or narcotics seizure, the agency involved immediately notifies Crime Stoppers.  Such actions are included in the monthly report provided to the Board of Directors, who then determines the amount of the reward that is authorized.  The student caller is advised how and when to collect the reward money: this procedure continues to preserve the anonymity of the caller.

How To Call In Your Tip

  1. Call the Crime Stoppers line at 433-STOP (433-7867) or 1-877-433-TIPS.

  2. DO NOT GIVE YOUR NAME.  Say you are a Student Caller.

  3. Give the information about any criminal activity at school, on school grounds, or in the community.  You may be asked some questions, but you will NOT be asked your name.

  4. You will be given a code number and instructions when to call back to find out the progress on your tip.  Your code number is your only link to the Crime Stoppers line.  It is your responsibility to remember and protect your code number.  If the information you provide is valid and helps solve a crime, you will then be given further instructions on how to pick up your reward and information about the amount you will receive.
